A tool for Athletic Administrators to evaluate coaches similar to what teachers experience in the classroom. Just as classroom teachers are evaluated using predefined measures of effectiveness, so too, is a similar tool available for evaluating coaches.
My recent article published in Athletic Management Fall 2012 reveals one of the only rubric’s developed just for coaches.
Descriptors for each Dimension is provided with guiding evidence across three categories: Exceeding Standard, Meeting Standard and Below Standard.
The 5 Domains with 20 Dimensions include:
I. Presence of a Real Team (clear task, member boundaries, authority, stability)
II. Direction and Culture (direction, culture of responsibility, culture of motivation)
III. Enabling Structure & Norms (what is acceptable, what is sanctioned, behavior guidelines)
IV. Support Systems (ceremonies and traditions, rewards and recognition, development systems, feedback systems)
V. Expert Coaching (ethics and values, knowledge and credibility, authenticity, skill, mentorship)
